Tan-zay-nia – 16th July

We are now very firmly in Masai country – Tan/zay/nia (as the locals call it) mainland, leaving Zanzibar, a distant sweet memory…

Were camping in a place called snake park, and yes by name – by nature, as in, “Snakes on display” – JOY.  The camp site is run by ‘Ma’, a no nonsense woman who’s seen it ALL before.  This is the epicentre of overland tours, where tales are spun, and darts are won (even by flukesters like me)!  Ma runs a tight ship with many of the proceeds from the campsite going to help run a local medical centre for snake bite victims which are predominate in the area.

The next morning we head to the local Masai museum, which causes heated discussion, before moving on to the local Masai village – to meet the children and engage with the local tribe.  The people stand out by their regal stature, bright tartan cloaks, and abundance of eye-catching jewellery – they truely are a beautiful nomadic race.  We were treated to some traditional singing and dancing by some of the tribes warriors, and when the group are challenged, Sam, Adam, and Nick make us proud…infact, lucky for the warriors, all the Masai woman seemed to be away, otherwise, we may have had 3 more seats to find in the truck for our new guests/brides!

Another big celebration for the group that night, namely Richard, our drivers birthday.  Another push for Ma’s charity, and a little creativity needed, when everyone are given bin bags for outfits.  Adam you win hands down for designing, and modeling, the sexiest bin bag all in one ive seen this side of Africa – move on Donatella!
